Happy New Year!

I'm already bored.

My New Year's eve was uneventful. I sat home watching some movie about the antichrist on TBN ... the Christian channel. The movie wasn't bad, even though it had this real low budge look about it. You know, it's pretty hard to take the end of the world serious with Kirk Cameron in the leading role. Also, the guy playing the antichrist had this awful east European accent, and he kept trying really hard to look evil, but he just ended up looking extremely camp and cheesy. I think it could have used a little more nudity too.

:My New Years Resolutions:

- Exercise
- Write More
- Stop Smoking
- Pay Off The Credit Card

What a horrible week.
First off I hit a car in a parking lot. Not just any car mind you, but a Mercedes SUV! Surprisingly no body damage since I only hit their tire which was jutting out. I did crack my bumper though. Still, I did cause their steering to go all funky, so I was liable for that. On the bright side though, the people were extremely nice about it all, and were more worried about my mental health because I nearly had a breakdown. Anyway, I've just been to their place of business, and they explained to me how the dealer wanted to charge them $1500 for the repairs, but they hymned and hawed about how this was a German car and not a cheap American car, and they expected quality and the dealer halved the repairs cost down to a little over $600. On top of that they also bitched about having to pay for their own tow (which I really paid for), so the dealer knocked another $140 off the price. All things considered, I guess I'm pretty lucky to have hit the car the way that I did, and that the people turned out to be so reasonable, nice, and accommodating about everything considering I'm the one who inconvenienced them. Either way though, I'm totally broke.

On top of that, my home computer has completely crapped out on me. Everything is corrupted now ... even my iTunes and music. It took me almost two full days to get the damn thing started again. I couldn't get Windows to load up. It's running now, but barely, and a whole weeks work I did on my history paper has been lost. I just pray now that my Office XP, and my computer can hold on for two more days until I can finish rewriting this damn history paper which is due tomorrow.

I've got a few more other worries as well, but I don't want to be a bitch.

So I went to see The Dresden Dolls at the Troubadour on Wednesday. They were fantastic! They were scheduled to do Lollapalooza, but as we all know that was canceled which is a shame because they could have gotten a lot of exposure from it. I guess it doesn't really matter because the show was a sell out. They also made an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show last night. Not too bad for a band that's doing it by themselves. If you get a chance to see them, or if you see the CD somewhere, buy it ... I highly recommend them. They're the most original band I've seen or heard in a long time.

Extra added bonus: I also met, and hung out with the wonderfully witty carinahead... She made the evening extra enjoyable by laughing at all my corny jokes, and making a few herself. On top of that she likes Cyndi, and has a platinum blonde mohawk. She's very Kewl (yup, that's cool with a K)..

Curtis killed himself in 1980, and the other members of Joy Division, including Hook, went on to form New Order.

US-based production company Claraflora is producing the as-yet-untitled film. It is based on the book Touching From A Distance, written by Curtis's widow Deborah. The guessing game to identify the actor is underway, all that's known is that he bears a physical resemblance to Curtis, the actor in question has just finished a couple of films and the only music he listened to was Joy Division and New Order.

... I'm not sure how I feel about this. It's bad enough they remade Alfie (one of the greatest films ever), but now they want to drag Ian out all over again. To be honest, I think the music speaks for itself. The story is right there for all to see. What else are they going to say? Seems exploitive to me. Nevertheless ... I'd still go see the film, Doh!

I had a fantastic time at my sister’s wedding last Saturday. Even the quaint little church ceremony was nice. They were married at The Little Brown Church in the Valley which holds the illustrious distinction of being the place where our recently deceased ex-president Ronald Reagan was married. It took literally all the will power I could muster to keep from crying as they went through the motions. Well, I’m just a big softie. She looked so happy, and that made me happy, but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t just a little bit jealous. I have a hard enough time finding a date, let along finding a wife.

After the nuptials were over we headed down the street to the hotel for the reception. It was a great party … dinner, drinks, a DJ, and dancing … lots and lots of dancing. I also saw a ton of people who I haven’t seen in 20 years. I got reacquainted with the girl who took my virginity from me, oh so long ago (thank you for that) … I also saw another girl, (mmm, Yvette), who I had a big crush on, and who I also dated for a bit way back in high school. She looked damn good, and we spent a good part of the afternoon together, dancing and chatting, to the slight dismay of her boyfriend. After the official party ended some of us more hearty types decided to move it upstairs to a hotel room, whereupon much more drinking was done. After a while, the few of us who remained decided to go out dancing at some club in Pasadena where there was this groovy 70’s funk cover band with huge afros playing. I danced some more with the girls, but eventually people grew tired, and everyone went home.

Overall it was one of the best days I’ve had in a really long time. I looked exceptionally sweet in my new suit and pink polka dot tie … people really loved that tie! According to my sister (the bride) all her girlfriends were totally digging me (no wonder they all asked me to dance!) … especially the old girlfriend, so she’s going to put in a good word for me. I’m glad I gave her that present..

My summer vacation has been kind of boring so far, so that's why I never write anything on this journal. I did see Cyndi Lauper last Saturday at The Greek though, and I think it just might have been the best concert I've ever seen. Cyndi is the most electrifying, fun, and down to earth performer I've ever seen grace the stage. Her voice just blew me away ... sweet, soulful, tender, and powerful. She made me cry, and she looked so cute, and was really funny as well. She never stopped dancing or running around the whole time. She kept running into the audience (still singing mind you), and at one point she was about two feet from me, so I reached out and touched her arm *swoon* ... I nearly died! I think I finally understand how certain people I know can obsess over famous people because I'm obsessing baby! I'm in lurve, yes.

I also went and saw Shrek 2 a couple of weeks ago. It was the first movie that I've actually gone to see since Gladiator. Well, I really liked it. Puss In Boots was brilliant! The whole film was really well done. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Now I need to see the first one.

After the movie I walked over to Universal Studios (I have that yearly pass) and I rode the new Mummy ride. It was great! I was able to ride it three times in a row with no waiting thanks to their generous single rider policy. You see, they have this express line for single riders which is nice as long as you don't mind who you will be sitting next to. Lucky for me, I got to sit next to a couple of cute foreign chicks this one time. After the ride they asked me to take a photo of them ... I complied with their wishes.

What else, what else? Oh yeah ... thank God the mighty state of California finally signed the new budget yesterday. Now they won't have to cancel my next semester of school. Still, they did cut something like a billion dollars from education. Bastards!

I'm seeing the Dresden Dolls at the Troubadour on August 18th. That should be fun. If you haven't heard of them yet ... by all means, check them out.

Yesterday I got Soft Cell's Non-Stop Exotic Video Show on DVD. I had much fun watching that all afternoon. Marc was adorable, and the videos were excellent. They definitely don't make videos like that anymore. What happened to being creative? I tell you ... some people can rag on 80's music, but they'd be hard pressed to find fault with the videos. Sure, there were some cheesy ones made, but on average ... most of the best videos ever made were done back then.

I know I said I would spend more time updating my LJ, but as usual I keep forgetting to do it. On top of that - I never know if I should be deep or just write about all the frivolous crap that comes into my head. Oh, Fok it..

Let's see then, I got my hair cut yesterday (thanks Diana) ... it rocks. Perhaps I'll post a picture tonite. Say what you want about me, but my hair is pretty cool. Now if only I could instill that sort of positivity into the rest of my life I'd be in business. I also had an enjoyable Thai dinner with Melody, Diana, and Steve, and then we went to Diana's where we watched The Breakfast Club on TV and laughed at all the bad 80's dubs of the foul language.

Yes, I'm really loving my iPod. My affection for it grows on a daily basis. It's become my de facto fashion accessory and I never leave home without it. My days are consumed with thinking about which songs to upload, which songs to keep or delete, should I rate them, playlists to make, on and on etc..

Oh, and I went dancing on Sunday and that was fun. I spent the next afternoon nursing a raging headache, but it went away, and then I went to a Japanese restaurant with Melody and Crystal. Yup, I still hate seaweed.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate this post a 4.

I finally got the new Divine Comedy album, and I don't know what it is, but I find it strangely depressing. Now don't get me wrong it's not a bad album ... quite the contrary ... but it does seem to be having the opposite effect on me. Maybe it has something to do with where my head is at right now. NO, I'm not depressed or anything, but I am a little sad about some things, and the way they turned out. Oh well, the world keeps turning.

On a lighter note... I went out dancing with holycleopatra and just_for_a_day on Sunday. I forgot how much I enjoyed dancing. Afterwards we went to Del Taco and got some burritos. Then we went back to my place, and watched DVDs. It was fun!

Today at school I burned my hand on a cup of a coffee. Fok it hurt bad, but I cheered up slightly when I found out I got a 99 on my in class essay test for Philosophy last week. I got the two new Duran Duran DVDs, but I haven't had time to watch them yet. Oh, and I'm seeing Siouxsie on September 22, so if anyone wants to hang out just let me know..

I've been lazy all week, it's spring break and all. Now I'm in trouble because I have a Psyche mid term, and a paper due on Tuesday. I know I work better under pressure, but I hate doing this to myself. Hopefully, I can get some work done on the paper at work this weekend. The hard part for me is just getting started on these things. Once I get going I'm cool..

a-z affectionately, 1 to 10 alphabetically. from here to eternity without in betweens. still looking for a custom fit in an off the rack world? sales talk from sales assistants when all i want to do is lower your resistance. no rhythm in cymbals no tempo in drums. love's on arrival, she comes when she comes. right on the target but wide of the mark, what i thought was fire was only the spark the sweetest melody is an unheard refrain. dry your eyes sink or swim you surmise you can't win, but we all make great mistakes. if i were to say to you "can you keep a secret?" would you know just what to do or where to keep it? would i lie? could i lie? should i lie to you? if you judge a book by the cover then you judge the look by the lover, i hope you will soon recover. me, i go from one extreme to another. sentimental powers might help you now, but skip the hearts and flowers, skip the ivory towers. you'll be disappointed...and i'll lose a friend. when your girl has left you out on the pavement and your dreams fall apart at the seams. your reason for living is your reason for leaving. kindest cut's the cruelest part...when i accepted this job i was resigned to my fate. when i got there early she'd emigrate. when the postman don't call on valentine's day. when they find you beached on the barrier reef and the only pleasure treasured is in map relief. when your world is full of string arrangements, when you were mine. when i'm shaking a hand i'm clenching a fist, for if you gave me a pound for all the moments i missed, and i got dancing lessons for all the lips i shoulda kissed: i'd be a millionaire/i'd be fred astaire. and like the world spinning round on it's axis, i know what's small and i know what's massive. like the phoenix coming back from the ashes, i know what's good, but i know what trash is. stuck a marriage...proposal in the waste disposal. if that's the trash aesthetic then i suggest we forget it. everything is temporary, written on the sand, looking for the girl that meets supply with demand. 4 ever 2 gether, 4 years 2 come, 4 love 2 strong, 4 us 2 part, forgive and forget, for goodness sake. love's on the horizon lit by the sun. 9 out of 10 in every case...the cowboys at the rodeo, the rhinestones on that romeo, a sunken ship with a rich cargo, i suppose it only goes to show...me. what's it like to have loved and to lose her touch? what's it like to have loved and to lose that much? who got? where's the? i don't know the answer to that question. who broke my heart? you did...you did...

I took two of my cats to the groomers yesterday. About an hour later the groomer calls and tells me that the claws on one of my cats have grown into her pads. I feel terrible; I didn't even notice. She was walking around fine and everything. He offers to pull them out, but tells me that he is worried about an infection. They already looked infected to me, so I opted to take her to the vet instead. The vet was nice, and he lessened my guilt a little by telling me that this happens to older cats all the time and I shouldn't really blame myself. The vet pulls them out, charges me $136, and gives me a syringe and some liquid antibiotic medicine to inject down her throat (always fun to do). he also told me I have to give her a warm paw bath twice a day with betadine. It's funny: she actually seems to enjoy the bath, but who wouldn't love having their feet soaked after a long hard day of sleeping on the floor for 15 hours. I also had to go buy a new litter box and this special kind of newspaper type litter that looks like rabbit food. After all that; I spent the rest of afternoon trying to keep her and her bloody paws off the carpet. Mission accomplished: hundreds of little bloody paw prints were confined to the kitchen. Anyway, I'm happy to report that the cat is doing fine and recovering nicely.

I was looking for an electronic dictionary on Amazon the other day and I happened to notice that there are two new Duran Duran DVDs coming out soon. One is Sing Blue Silver a 1984 Tour Documentary, and the other is An Absurd Notion: The Making of Arena. They're scheduled to be released on May 4th.

Interesting; I just received a call telling me that Morrissey is playing five nights at the Wiltern. I looked it up on Ticketmaster, but they haven't listed the dates yet. I'd like to go to that. If anyone else out wants to go...maybe we can try buying a block of tickets or something. Oh, by the way: there's a good interview with The MOZ in the new GQ magazine.

I didn't really have much fun tonight until the FURS played. They were awesome. Why aren't they more popular? The place wasn't even that full.. I mean I know the 80's are long past gone, but everyone worships The Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode etc... You'd think the FURS would be ranked right up there. IT's a crime I tell you! Richard Butler kicks ass! Plain and simple. They were so good... And they have so many good songs, they could have easily played for three hours. The crowd was digging them too. Everyone was singing along, and dancing together, it was like a New Wave Woodstock or something.. I got there way too early ... MY bad. I usually don't mind going to shows by myself even if everyone else thinks that's weird, but this time I was hating it for some reason. I just sat outside on the curb smoking for 2 and half hours till the FURS came on... That's what I get for taking the bus there so early. Anyway, it was worth it though. They ruled the school. I wish I could see them again, they didn't play long enough. I got right up front, shook Richard's hand a few times as he worked the crowd. He looked good up close, better than Ian McCulloch did a few months ago. They pretty much stuck to the hits, but they played Alice's House and that was cool.. Umm, I bought a t-shirt..

I never have anything to say ON this thing. What do I write about ... washing dishes and stuff? Boring! I'm still going TO school. I turned in my first essay today. The Prof made us read each others papers. It was weird, because we had to grade them, write comments, and then sign our names to them. DAMN, they were horrible. Literally unreadable! Why are these people even in college! I really wanted to write C - D - F on all of them, but I'm too kind. I didn't hold back on my comments though. Honestly, I don't know why I sweat my work so much when everyone else's is so bad. Nobody even follows the guidelines. I couldn't understand a thing they were talking about. Anyways, I got a look at mine before the Prof got it, and everyone gave me an A and complimented me on my work. I'm going to see the Psychedelic Furs on Friday. That's rather exciting. I bought The Human League - Very Best of DVD today, and I had a good laugh watching that. I remember it well.

I'm exhausted. I just spent the last 12 and half hours at school today.

I finally got my chance to see a counselor, but the only appointments they had available were early in the morning, so I wound up having to hang around campus all afternoon till my classes started. The reason I wanted to see a counselor was so I could get a better idea of where I'm at, and where I have to go to get where I want to be.

Well, the good news is now I know, but the bad news is I'm slightly discouraged. I'm mainly discouraged because it looks like I'm going to have to take a butt load of math classes to get up to the required University level. The thing is I hate math. I can't do math. My math skills are extremely rudimentary. Anything beyond adding, subtracting, and simple division is alien to me. I just don't work well with numbers. I'd rather walk through a pit of alligators, cobras, scorpions then take a math class. This is going to slow down the whole process immensely. Most likely, it will now take me an extra year to get my AA degree, and allow me to transfer to a CSU school. I think I'll probably end up having to get a tutor or something.

It wasn't all bad though, I did decide on my major today ... Liberal Arts/Studies. And I also found out what classes I need to take to get into an elementary teaching program at a CSU school. It's just the foking math thing that's got me down..

Gah, I have so much reading to do. I'm getting it done, but I don't have to like it. The problem is, I get too sleepy when I read. Fifteen minutes in and I'm yawning. Thirty minutes later and I'm fast asleep. I try to counteract this by reading in my uncomfortable chair, but that doesn't work either. I still end up asleep, but now it's in an uncomfortable chair.

I have a lot of sympathy, and admiration for the supermarket workers on strike, and I still go out of my way to avoid shopping at Ralphs, but how can anyone argue with 12 packs of Guinness for $10.

For the first time in a long time I actually have a bit of money in the bank. I can't decide what to do with it though. Common sense tells me to pay off my credit card, but I am very tempted to buy something nice. Maybe I should just leave it there in case of an emergency ... I just don't know. I've never been very good at saving money, and what's the point of worrying about a little debt. It's not like I really owe that much money anyway. I know plenty of people who owe five figures or more, while I literally owe a few thousand dollars. Hey, it's not like I see myself getting married, buying a house, and having kids anytime soon. The way I see it is, my credit is perfect, and I have so much of it, so why not put it too good use? Why do I always have to be the responsible guy..
